Study on Chinese Classical Learning and Sinology |

With the rising interest in Chinese classical learning and sinology studies, the University is pleased to establish the Mr. Simon Suen and Mrs. Mary Suen Sino-Humanitas Institute to serve as a platform for exchange of ideas and to bridge studies in these two fields. |

HKBU received a donation of HK$30 million (around US$3.8 million) from Mr. Simon Suen, Chairman of the SML Group, and Mrs. Mary Suen for the establishment of the Development Fund for the Mr. Simon Suen and Mrs. Mary Suen Sino-Humanitas Institute. The donation was made to support the Institute's operation, research and exchange activities relating to Chinese classical learning and sinology. The Institute has been named after Mr. Simon Suen and Mrs. Mary Suen in recognition of their generosity and strong support. |
The Institute aims to:
- enhance research in Chinese classical learning and sinology at the University, and gain world recognition in the area;
- foster scholarly exchange and collaboration between the East and the West, especially in the humanities and cross-cultural areas;
- promote and raise awareness of

| The Institute will organise research symposiums on topics related to Chinese classical and early writing, bringing world-renowned scholars to the University for discussions on the frontier issues in Chinese classical learning and sinology. Distinguished researchers and promising young scholars will be invited to share their valuable knowledge, research experiences and findings. The Institute will also publish a series of conference papers on sinology and Chinese classical studies from different countries and regions and provide courses on Chinese classical learning and sinology. |
